Make time to make something

Beginner-friendly ceramic sessions for adults who want hands-on creativity, functional results, and a break from the daily grind.

Whether you’ve never touched clay before or your high school art teacher still remembers your unique mug attempt, these beginner-friendly adult sessions are built for you.

We don’t care if you’ve never made a thing in your life. We don’t care if your β€œcreative phase” ended with a lopsided ashtray in 9th grade. What we do care about is that you show up, roll up your sleeves, and give it a shot.

Over a few weeks, you’ll go from β€œI’ve never done this” to pulling a gorgeous, handmade piece out of the kiln that you can actually use. Each class guides you through time-tested techniques like pinch, coil, and slab so you leave with more than just pottery. You leave with proof you can make something from nothing.

You don’t need a creative bone, just two hands and a tiny willingness to get messy.

First session starts Saturday, September 6

Fall & Halloween Ceramics: Functional Art You’ll Love to Use

Schedule: Saturdays | Sept 6 – Oct 11 | 10 am - 12 pm | 6 Weeks | Ages 18+

Celebrate the season of crisp leaves and pumpkin spice by crafting functional ceramics inspired by fall and Halloween. In this beginner-friendly class for adults, you’ll learn the essentials of clayβ€”pinch, coil, and slab buildingβ€”while creating vessels, trays, and objects that channel seasonal charm and spooky whimsy. Think leaf-imprinted bowls, pumpkin and cauldron pots, and textured serving platters that could star in your next Halloween gathering.

Students will learn:

  • How to shape clay using pinch, coil, and slab techniques

  • Score & slip methods to attach handles, feet, and sculpted details like bats or moons

  • Surface decoration using underglaze, sgraffito, and seasonal textures (leaves, lace, eerie carvings)

  • Glazing basics to finish pieces with autumn tones and glossy effects

  • How to reflect on their work and showcase it in a cozy, candle-lit final gallery walk

Perfect for absolute beginners, this course invites you to relax, get your hands delightfully dirty, and leave with handmade pieces that celebrate the rituals and mood of the season. All materials are providedβ€”just bring your curiosity and a flair for fall magic.

HOUSTON-BASED POP ARTIST

Julia McLaurin

I’m a neo-pop artist (an artist influenced by pop art) and clay is my medium of choice. I challenge myself to show the beauty in everyday, otherwise mundane objects. Through the method of slab-building, I create ginormous, fun, and whimsical works of art!
